As the COVID-19 infection rate escalates across South Africa and the world at large, we are mindful of the fact that some of our staff and passengers are also at risk to be infected during this precarious time.
As a mode of public transport, the health and safety of our staff and passengers is crucial for us. We have therefore taken great care to implement numerous precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on the Gautrain system. Stations, trains, buses and midi-buses are cleaned and disinfected at regular intervals throughout the day and, to help maintain high levels of hygiene, we have placed almost 100 alcohol-based hand sanitizers across the ten Gautrain stations. We have also made hand sanitizers available on the buses. Furthermore, our staff have been issued with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with their specific job function. All staff and passengers must always wear a face mask whilst at Gautrain stations and onboard trains, buses or midi-buses thereby limiting any potential, unintended exposure to fellow staff and/or passengers.
In the event of a Gautrain staff member testing positive for COVID-19, we will immediately implement the following protocol to help curtail the spread of the virus. We will:
Please be reminded that random screening of passengers is conducted at stations in collaboration with the Department of Health field workers.
